Cavern Diver course 

 

Is designed for certified divers who want to expand their underwater exploration skills into the realm of cavern diving. This course offers an introduction to the techniques, equipment, planning, and procedures necessary for safe cavern diving, while staying within the light zone and maintaining a direct path to the surface.

                                    Cavern Diver course

The  course typically includes both classroom instruction and practical, in-water training. In the classroom, students learn about:

  1. Cavern Diving Principles: This covers the differences between open water and cavern diving, including potential hazards and how to mitigate them.
  2. Dive Planning and Navigation: Students are taught how to plan cavern dives, use guideline techniques, and navigate within a cavern environment.
  3. Equipment Configuration: Detailed instruction on the specialized equipment used in cavern diving, such as primary and backup lights, reels, and redundant air supplies.
  4. Emergency Procedures: Emphasis is placed on managing out-of-air situations, lost line drills, and other potential emergencies.

                               

                                       Practical Training 

The practical segment of the course includes a minimum of four cavern dives. These dives are conducted in actual cavern environments under the supervision of a certified TDI Cavern Diving Instructor. During these dives, students practice:

  1. Line Management: Proper use of guidelines to navigate within the cavern.
  2. Buoyancy Control: Maintaining neutral buoyancy to avoid stirring up silt and reducing visibility.
  3. Communication: Effective use of hand signals and light signals to communicate with dive buddies.
  4. Problem Solving: Simulated emergency scenarios to practice problem-solving and emergency response skills.

                                          Prerequisites

To enroll in the TDI Cavern Diver course, students must be at least 18 years old and have a minimum of 25 logged dives. They should also hold a certification of Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent.

 

                                            Certification 

Upon successful completion of the course, divers receive a TDI Cavern Diver certification, allowing them to explore cavern environments while adhering to the training and safety standards they have learned.
