1. A Unique Gathering of Pregnant Females
Every year between November and March, a population of predominantly pregnant female bull sharks arrives in the shallow, cooler waters of Playa del Carmen. Scientists believe they come to feed and make use of nearby areas to give birth. Because they are mature females, they are impressively large—often exceeding 8 feet (2.5 meters) in length—making their presence underwater incredibly majestic.
2. Unbeatable and Easy Logistics
The main dive site is located just a 5 to 10-minute boat ride from the main beach. You gear up, step onto the boat, and within minutes, you are descending into the action.
3. A Controlled Adrenaline Rush
The dive is conducted under strict safety protocols and is structured as a static immersion rather than a typical drift or exploratory dive. Divers descend to a sandy bottom at a depth of 80 to 100 feet (24 to 30 meters), settling together while maintaining negative buoyancy.
